02Das Wichtigste in Kürze
|---|---|
| Kamera | Barcodes scannen, Mahlzeiten fotografieren, Fortschrittsfotos aufnehmen |
| Fotos | Bilder auswählen und speichern, Sicherungsdateien ablegen |
| Mikrofon, Spracherkennung | Sprachmemos und Spracheingabe von Mahlzeiten |
| Apple Health, Health Connect, Bewegung | Schritte, Aktivkalorien, Distanz, Herzfrequenz lesen (Abschnitt unten) |
| Bluetooth | Herzfrequenzgurte verbinden.

Your data stays on your phone
Ajolo stores training, nutrition, notes and photos locally on your device. There is no Ajolo account and no server holding your data.
Only a few features use the internet
AI analysis (Google Gemini), food database (Open Food Facts) and subscription and codes (RevenueCat). All are described precisely below.
No advertising tracking
No advertising ID, no analytics or advertising SDKs, and no sharing of your data for advertising.

Controller within the meaning of Art. 4(7) GDPR for the processing described in this policy. Send privacy enquiries to the email address. For our websites and the partner program, the privacy notice on the partner program and websites also applies.
02The essentials
- Stored locally: profile, training, routines, nutrition, body measurements, notes and photos are on your device. We have no access to them.
- No Ajolo account: there is no registration and no login. The “account” in the app is a local profile.
- Internet only for certain features: AI analysis of photos and speech (Ajolo PRO), food search, subscription and codes, plus services of your operating system (store, speech recognition, backups).
- You stay in control: change permissions any time in the system settings, export or delete data in the app settings.
03Data that stays on your device
The app stores the following data exclusively on your device:
- Profile: name (free choice), gender, date of birth, height, weight, profile picture.
- Training: workouts, sets, training plans, routines, habits, streaks and ranks.
- Nutrition: meals, water, calories and nutrients, favorites.
- Body: body measurements, weight history, progress photos.
- Notes: journal and notes, also with pictures and voice memos.
- Values from Apple Health or Health Connect if you allow it (section “Apple Health and Health Connect”).
This data sits in the app database on your device. It is not additionally encrypted by Ajolo but protected by your operating system and your device lock. Access keys are kept in the system’s secure storage (iOS Keychain, Android Keystore). The legal basis is providing the app’s functions (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and, for health data, your consent (Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR, section “Consent, withdrawal and age”). Because this data does not reach us, we do not process it on our own servers.
04Device permissions
Depending on the feature, the app asks for permissions. You can change or withdraw them at any time in the system settings. The feature that needs them then stops working.
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Camera | Scan barcodes, photograph meals, take progress photos |
| Photos | Select and save pictures, store backup files |
| Microphone, speech recognition | Voice memos and voice entry of meals |
| Apple Health, Health Connect, motion | Read steps, active calories, distance, heart rate (see below) |
| Bluetooth | Connect heart-rate straps. On older Android versions the system also requires the location permission for this. Ajolo does not collect your location. |
| Notifications | Reminders for routines and training |
| Local network | Data transfer between your own devices on Wi-Fi |
05Apple Health and Health Connect
If you allow the connection, Ajolo reads the following values: steps, active calories, distance, on Android also total calories, and heart rate. The app writes nothing to Apple Health or Health Connect and does not read your body weight there.
- The values are used only for display in the app and to calculate your calorie budget.
- We do not pass this data to third parties and do not use it for advertising or marketing.
- You can withdraw the permission at any time in the system settings.
06AI features with Google Gemini (Ajolo PRO)
For photo and voice entry of meals, Ajolo PRO uses the Gemini API from Google (Google Ireland Limited, Ireland, and Google LLC, USA). This happens only when you actively trigger the feature, for example “Analyze photo with AI”.
- What is sent: a downsized photo of your meal and, if you enter one, a hint text. For voice entry, your speech is first converted to text on the device or by the operating system (section “Operating system, store and backups”). Only the text goes to Google. The audio recording itself is not sent.
- What is not sent: your name, profile, account or device ID. Technically, Google receives your IP address.
- Storage with us: none. We run no server for this.
- At Google: how long and for what purpose Google processes the inputs is governed by Google’s terms for the Gemini API (ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms). Please photograph meals only, not people, documents or screens showing personal data.
- Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (you trigger the feature yourself). Where inputs allow conclusions about your health, it is your consent through deliberate use (Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR).
- USA: Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; the transfer relies on the European Commission’s adequacy decision (Art. 45 GDPR).
At most 10 photo and 10 voice analyses per day are available (see Terms). AI results are estimates; no legally relevant decisions are made automatically. Training plan suggestions (Smart Plan) are calculated locally on your device without internet.
07Food database (Open Food Facts)
When you scan a barcode or search for food, the app retrieves product data from the free database Open Food Facts (Open Food Facts association, France). The barcode number or your search term is transmitted, with voice entry also parts of the recognized text. Technically, the operator receives your IP address. We do not send account, profile or device IDs. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
08Subscription, purchases and codes (RevenueCat)
You buy and pay for subscriptions through the Apple App Store or Google Play. We receive no payment data. So that the app knows whether you have Ajolo PRO, we use the service RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA).
- When: the RevenueCat SDK starts when you open the app and assigns an anonymous identifier.
- Which data: purchase and subscription status, product, timestamps, technical device and app details, and the IP address.
- Codes: if you enter a partner, promotional or company code, the code is stored with your anonymous identifier at RevenueCat (for company codes additionally the company name and a device checksum for the seat). This lets us grant the discount or activation, prevent misuse and settle partner commissions. Partners and employers do not learn who you are or how you use the app.
- Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the subscription function) and (f) (protection against misuse, settlement).
- USA: the transfer relies on appropriate safeguards, in particular standard contractual clauses (Art. 46 GDPR).
09Operating system, store and backups
Some processes run via services of Apple and Google, which act under their own responsibility and privacy notices:
- App Store and Google Play: purchase, subscription management and app updates.
- Speech recognition: speech is converted to text by the operating system. Depending on device and language this may happen on Apple or Google servers.
- Device backups: system backups (iCloud, Google Backup, computer) can contain app data if you have enabled them. On Android, automatic backup is not excluded for the app.
- iCloud (iOS): Ajolo stores only a counter for the daily AI allowance there, no training or health data.
10Connection check and Wi-Fi transfer
- Connection check: the app can check whether an internet connection exists and sends short technical requests to public servers of Google (8.8.8.8, google.com) and Cloudflare (1.1.1.1, cloudflare.com). Your IP address is technically visible in this process; no content from the app is transmitted.
- Wi-Fi transfer: when you transfer data between your own devices, the app briefly opens a server on the local Wi-Fi. This transfer is not encrypted. Use it only on a trusted Wi-Fi network.
11Backup files, export and uninstalling
- Backup file: if you create a backup in the app, it contains your data including photos. It is saved in the documents folder on iOS and in the “Download” or “Documents” folders on Android. Other apps or people with access to your device may be able to see it there. Keep it safe or delete it after use.
- Uninstalling: entries in the system’s secure storage and backup files can survive an uninstall and may be offered for restoring after a reinstall. If you want to remove all data, use “Delete account & all data permanently” before uninstalling and delete backup files yourself.
12Retention, deletion and export
- Local data: it stays until you delete it. You delete single entries directly in the respective view.
- Delete everything: in the settings you find “Delete account & all data permanently” (confirmed by typing “DELETE”). It removes the local databases, media and the entries in secure storage. Not covered are backups at Apple or Google, backup files in your folders, and data at RevenueCat, Google and Open Food Facts. For deletion at RevenueCat, write to app@ajolo.de.
- Export (Art. 20 GDPR): under “Resources & Legal” you can export your data as a JSON file. Photo files are not included; the backup covers them.
13Consent, withdrawal and age
- Consent: at first launch you confirm the Terms, this privacy policy and the notice that Ajolo is not a medical device together. By doing so you also consent to the processing of your health data in the app (Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR).
- Withdrawal: you can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future by deleting your data in the app and no longer using it, or by email to app@ajolo.de. The lawfulness of earlier processing remains unaffected.
- Age: Ajolo may be used from age 16; under 18, contracts require parental consent (see Terms). If you believe a child has sent us data, write to us.
14Recipients and third countries
